Believe It Or Not…Everyone Is On a Fitness Journey
My Diabetic Journey
Most of the time when someone talks about a journey, they are talking about a Caribbean vacation, or a trip to Alaska, or the time they went to China and rode the Orient Express. Maybe they talk about that African safari they took, or even a trip to Disney World! They go into great detail about how much fun they had on their trip and walk you back through their itinerary….Complete with pictures, videos, post cards, and various memorabilia they acquired while away. They reminisce about the places they went with nostalgia and the last thing they do is talk about their desire to go there again to rekindle that feeling of adventure they experienced when they last went….The journey was wonderful and one they would take again and again…
Ok, that is if their journey was a good one…
Otherwise, they might walk you through a terrible experience they had while on a faraway trip. Where they stayed in roach-infested hotels…or ate food that didn’t set well with them…Or the cruise they took where many of the people got dysentery and they were one of them…The view from the bathroom on the ship was just terrible! Or maybe they took that trip to Disney World and it was 95 degrees in Orlando and they passed out from heat exhaustion while trying to keep up with their kids that were really too young to enjoy any of the park anyway….
You get my drift….A journey can have a positive or negative outcome…It just depends on the expectations that you have and the final outcome that either exceeded those expectations or didn’t meet them at all. A lot also depends on your own personal background and experiences that will ultimately define whether the journey is a good one or not. For instance, I bet a person who is traveling from the deep jungles of South America to Chicago would have a much different view of their journey than one coming from the suburbs of St. Louis!
In light of these musings about journeys, I submit that I have been on a journey myself…..Not to the fjords of Iceland or even the top of the Empire State Building…It is a diabetic journey.
You might ask, how can you possibly go on a diabetic journey? Great question! And one that I would have asked about 18 years ago myself. It took just about that long to realize that is what I’ve been on! You might also ask, how could you be on a journey and not know you’re on one….especially for 18 years? Yeah…I’m embarrassed to admit to the absolute absurdity of me not knowing, but I didn’t!
That’s why I’m writing this now. I’m sure I’m not the only one on a diabetic journey that doesn’t know that they are! What I’ve found out is that once the realization set in that I am on one, my life has changed dramatically! I realized that because of this journey, I could take steps to manipulate the outcome to be more favorable, or do nothing and watch as things spiral out of control!
We at Virtual Life Fitness are dedicated to helping those who are also on a journey…It may be a diabetic journey or a fitness journey…Believe it or not, we are all on one! We want to help you realize where you are on yours and offer our services to you so that this journey will be a positive one.
For once in my life, I realized that fitness can be a fun and pleasurable experience! Furthermore I was not going to let diabetes control my life! I am living my life in spite of the disease…So can you! I will do my best to show you how!
